Drama Desk Noms are Out, The Tonys are Looming!

The 2008 Drama Desk Awards nominations were announced on April 28 by Bebe Neuwirth and Len Cariou at the Friars Club in New York. The broadway musical A Catered Affair, which stars Harvey Firestein (Hairspray) and Matt Cavenaugh (Grey Gardens), took home 12 nominations and the Off-Broadway Adding machine drew 9 nominations. The Wackness is Anything But Wack @ TriBeCa Film Fest.

We got a chance to attend the New York premiere of Jonathan Levine's The Wackness. It was absolutely amazing. The film follows Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) through his final summer before college in 1994. The film opens with Shapiro talking to his therapist, Dr. Squires (Sir Ben Kingsley), and before he leaves he pays for his session... with weed. Luke's coming-of-age is established by Squires and his crush, squires' daughter, Stephanie, played by Olivia Thirlby (Juno). The movie was astounding and everyone should go see it when it hits theaters in NYC and LA on July 8th!

Squeezebox! Premiere's Rockin' Revenge

Friday April 25, at TriBeCa Film Festival, the iconic party known as Squeezebox! was brought back to life with the documentary of the same name. The red carpet was studded with everyone from drag queens to rock stars to models. Marc Jacobs hosted the after-party. For one night only, Squeezebox! was back, and we were there! Debbie Harry was laughing with drag performer, Lady Bunny, and John Waters was reminiscing about the good old days, when asked how the clubs today are different from the 80s and 90s he laughed and said, "I don't know I never o out anymore."

Sadness or Amazingness...

Perez Hilton just posted some old news, but it made me think. See designer John Varvatos recently opened a New store, but in the old home of CBGB, the historic rock venue. At first i thought it appropriate, who else is more rock and roll americana then John? But that is sort of pitiful how the place that influenced so much of our culture has been bought out by a guy that sells rock "influenced" attire for 10 times the price. CONVERSE SHOULD NOT BE $90! Is fashion taking over what used to be individualized cultures in New York? What's next Marc is buying all of St. Marks

Where To Be: "The Wackness" Premiere

The place to be on Saturday April 26th will no doubt be The Wackness Premiere, Mk Olsen's latest and hopefully not worst. I mean she has a huge burden what with the success of New York Minute and her [deleted] scene from Factory Girl. But the film, which will run as a part of Tribeca Film Festival, also stars Oscar winner Ben Kingsly and Josh Peck (From Nickelodeon's Drake and Josh). We will be there, and filling you in on the ferocity we encounter.

Intermix Expands

One of the best women's wear boutiques in Manhattan is absolutely Intermix. It's no Bendel's but it does have a fine assortment of clothes and accessories for the ever changing closet. Now according to WWD the retailer will be expanding, opening four units this spring in East Hampton, N.Y., Orlando, Fla., Charlotte, N.C., and Chicago. The launches will bring Intermix's store count to 24, said chief executive officer Khajak Keledjian.

Stella McCartney will unveil today her new online commerce site. It is the first for the young designer, and is made in an effort to expand the ever-growing brand. It will expand to UK in the fall.

Wang and Lam Trunk Shows @Barneys

on Wednesday April 2, 2008 and Thursday April 3, 2008 Barneys will host Trunk shows for Alexander Wang and Derek Lam respectively. Located at their Madison Ave. location, the retailer will offer the usually assortment of goodies for gandering from the hot designers, Alexander is slated to be at the event.

Spring's Groff and Michele at Feinstein's

Spring Awakening's Lea Michele will bring her onstage love Jonathan Groff with her to reprise her cabaret on April 7,2008. Titled "Once Upon a Dream", the show was originally presented in February. Retail News: Lim in Tokyo, Fontaine on Madison, Bittar on Bleeker!

-According to WWD Philip Lim will open a flagship in Tokyo, This is his first opening abroad.
-"Anne Fontaine, who redefined the white blouse with a single-minded focus on the garment, has much more up her sleeve. For starters, there is a three-story, 7,500-square-foot flagship at 677 Madison Avenue designed by Andrée Putman," said WWD today. Opening in June, the store will offer a variety of articles that suit the modern woman.
- Alexis Bittar is opening shop on the growing downtown map.
The Brooklyn-based jewelry designer is opening his second store in late May on Bleecker Street, home to designer boutiques, upscale eateries and specialty store chains.

Sex Drama, Over Dresses!

Word on the street is that the cat fight has finally surfaced, thankfully after shooting has wrapped. But the odd thing is that this time the dramz is over dresses, for the premiere to be specific. New York Magazine said that Ms. Parker has been getting numerous bids, even bribes, by designers to get their works on her. Apparently Catrell and party aren't loving the lack of attention on their parts. All I can say is, "who will she be wearing??"
