So as we all know it is Tony Season and there's a lot of hub bub in the city. After Jesse Green's unnecessarily bitchy column in this weeks New York Magazine I thought it would be important to emphasize how great this season has been. I'm so proud of everyone doing their thing in such a moment of economic woe and creative spirit. This should be an incredible night and I will be there, tweeting and sharing my experiences on examiner.com and on this fine site.

But just so ya know, this year’s award ceremony will air live on CBS at 8:00 EST from Radio City Music Hall and will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. Billy Elliot leads the pack with the most nominations, 15 to be exact.

Some of the nominees include,

Best Play: God of Carnage, 33 Variations, Reasons to be Pretty, and Dividing the Estate.

Best Leading Actor in a Musical: David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik, and Kiril Kulish (Billy Elliot), Gavin Creel (Hair), Brian d’Arcy James (Shrek), Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages), J. Robert Spencer (Next to Normal).

Best Leading Actor in a Play: Jeff Daniels (God of Carnage), Raúl Esparza (Speed-the-Plow), James Gandolfini (God of Carnage), Geoffrey Rush (Exit the King), and Thomas Saoski (Reasons to Be Pretty).

The nominees for best musical and best revival of a musical will perform at the live telecast. According to Playbill.com, “the cast of Next to Normal, led by Tony nominee Alice Ripley, will perform ‘You Don't Know,’ while the Billy Elliot performance will feature all three Tony-nominated Billys: Trent Kowalik, Kiril Kulish and David Alvarez. The Shrek cast will also perform ‘What's Up, Duloc?’”

Some of the presenters include Anne Hathaway, Will Ferrel, Lauren Graham, Oliver Platt, Susan Sarandon, Kevin Spacey, Kristen Chenoweth, Nicole Kidman, and Frank Langella.

The Tony Awards will also air on the Clear Channel Spectacolor Screen in Times Square from 7-11 PM with seating in Duffy Square. The 2009 Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway league and the American Theatre Wing.

Slimane's Rock Royalty Prada Ads... Metaphor? Statement? Subtext?

Former Dior Homme designer and photographer Hedi Slimane's new pics for Prada's Spring 2009 Menswear line hit the internet waves and it looks like everyone's talking. The images don't feature models (don't worry they're still stunningly waif-like), they feature the sons Paul and Tricia Simonon in black and white.

The campaign has sparked discussions on WWD and New York Magazine as well as the infinite fashion blogs. Is this campaign more saying more than just "Buy Prada!" or are we simply over analyzing the only enticing and uplifting fashion story in the past weeks?

Miuccia Prada has not issued an official statement but it cannot be denied that these photos are chock full of subtext. It seems to be a message to the whole fashion community to look outside the borders. there's an entire world of "normal people" and the current self-exclusivity may be the reason everything is so damn shitty. Open your eyes people.

Economy: How dare you rain on my Fashion Week

You can fuck with my theater, but when an economy in the crapper starts to meddle with Fashion Week, that's when shit goes down. Vera Wang and Betsey Johnson both officially announced to WWD that they will no longer be showing in the Tents. Instead they will opt for more intimate (and cheap) venues to showcase their latest wears. Wang will show in her new SoHo store on Mercer. Also Bill Blass is finally closing for good. We were all knew this would happen after the year they had. Peter Som came in for one season, and despite critical acclaim, stores refused to buy the collection due to the company's instability. The company couldn't find a backer for a while. All that considered its a shame, such an iconic and definitively American label will close its showroom doors forever. Things are bad, but what can we do?

Spring Vuitton ads... Madonna+those shoes+Paris noir= LOVE

Louis Vuitton's ads for S/S 2009 have been released and I'm already drooling. The photo feature Madonna in the heels that danced in everyone's head in the weeks after Paris fashion week. Of course Madonna isn't wearing pants, but I'm ok with that. Only because that bag is hella gorgeous. The ads expemlify the mood that Jacobs created at his show. French noir meets exotic adevntures to Prague or Morocco circa 1925. Although the collection wasn't incredibly wearable, in my eyes, the ads give a pleasant light into what we can expect from stores come February. All I know is when I see gals wearing those shows, I fully plan on being friends with them.

Rough Times Echo on Broadway

It is incredibly hard for me to write this post tonight, as each show announced it would close I thought "OK its just one show", and writing about the troubled box offices would make it real. But it is real, we're in real trouble. The list of closing shows is as long as those that will remain after the holidays. Its not just the lousy shows like 13 too, the beautifully artistic and critically lauded musical Spring Awakening and the blockbusters Spamalot and Young Frankenstein(though I'm not quite crying about those). Although I truly believe Broadway will never die, I feel like after all this is over we'll have Disney's... and that's about it. Where is the art? Where are people like Stephen Sondheim? The answer is they're either Off-Broadway of out of town. Sonheim's Road Show is currently playing at The Public and more and more writers are performing their work in cities like D.C. and Philly. Its just a shame that high rent and tasteless tourists have finally made the move to ruin our city. And I'll be damned if I spend one cent on that bullshit mega-conglomerates whip up in their L.A. offices. I'll be seeing my annual holiday show at The Public and leaving those theaters in the dust.

Loomstate for Target!!

Amongst throngs of rumors about the upcoming McQueen line for Target, the retailer announced to WWD that they will Rogan Gregory will launch an eco-friendly line for Target. Gregory was a featured designer under the GO guest designer label and now will embark on a new collection. Coinciding with Earth Day, the line will launch on April 19th and will feature clothes for men and women ranging in prices from $14.99 to $44.99. Even Target is getting on the Eco-fashions band wagon!

Sprouse and Vuitton: Together Again... and Naked

Marc Jacobs and Stephen Sprouse are collaborating once again for Vuitton. The collection will feature his famous graffiti print on more than just Speedys and Keepalls. They're doing tights, shoes, and even Neverfulls.

As for advertising, well Mr. Jacobs decided that he is, in fact, his own best advertising. He's posed nude with a fab Keepall keeping all his Vuittons hidden for an upcoming issue of Harper's Bazaar. Terry Richards took the pictures, which of course are sparse and incredibly sexual. Quite the marketing campaign, but then again this is Marc Jacobs. The man doesn't do discrete very well. Either way I want some Sprouse Vuitton goods!

Marc jacobs Holiday Party: Canceled

Due to the troublesome economy, according to New York magazine, Marc Jacobs Int. has canceled the annually infamous Holiday Party. The staff party that always ends up on Page Six, has always been hailed as the biggest night for Marc's staff. Last year I was in the Marc by Marc store on Bleeker the day after the festivities and the only thing the strapping workers could talk about what who slept with who, and who vomitted all over their saris (it was arabian themed)... What will we do now? Maybe Alex Wang will throw a bash, he is the new Marc after all.

America's First Family, My Fashion Eyes Approve

November 4th was a day for the ages, the country was filled with energy and ferocity. So when Obama hit the stage late that night to accept his landslide victory, the family looked perfectly American. Michele looked impeccable in a S/S 09 Narciso Rodriguez dress with a black cardigan. To say that dress was right off the runway is an understatement. It was shown in the collection in September and won't hit stores until March. Lady pulled some strings. I think its awesome when fashion and politics go hand in hand, and I'm so glad that we finally have a beautiful classic lady in the White House. No word on who Failin Palin was wearing, but I have a few guesses... Dress Barn anyone??

On Your Marc, Get Set, Go: Fashion Week S/S 2009

Today, Friday September 5, is the first day of new York fashion week for Spring/Summer 2009. It will, as always, be a spectacle of style and luxury. I look forward to seeing the narratives from our most intellectual designers like Costa and Posen, as well as the theatrics from Jacobs and Johnson. It's an exciting time for fashion and America, I wonder how topics like the war, the election, and pop culture will shape up under the iconic tents in Bryant Park. Tonight I look forward to seeing Erin Featherston and Alice McCall. Other noteworthy shows for me, are Halston, Alex Wang, and of course Marc Jacobs. This week may hold ground-breaking art and design, but no matter what it will be quintessentially New York and classically chic.

The Word from Barney's Warehouse Sale

So the infamous Barney's Warehouse Sale kicked off yesterday, August 14th, with it's usual vivacity and carnality. I got a chance to check it out, and it was a pretty god scene. I started off in the men's section (as I am a man), later I went up to the women's to meet my friend and partner in discount crime, Chelsey. The minute I got to the top of the stairs, I was overwhelmed by the obvious rise in heat, energy, and ferocity. I looked out on a floor covered in Prada pumps and Marni minis thrown around the Chelsea location. The stock was pretty good. I found some great Trovata jackets, and Acne jeans, while Chelsey and our other friends found Marc jackets, Balenciaga dresses, and various assortment or Louboutin, Lanvin, and Prada shoes. I was especially stuck on Marc Collection studded flip flops. The prices were good comparatively speaking, a good $200 off those sandals. But that place is overwhelming and tiresome, its a battle just to exit. I would advise arriving highly caffeinated and determined, that's the only way one can survive. Title of Show Breaks Boundaries and Ushers in a New Era of The Broadway Musical

I got the chance to see the new Broadway musical Title of Show last night. I had been hearing things about the show since it's first inception at NYMF a few years ago. It was not what I thought it would be, at all. The musical, now playing at the Lyceum theater, is about two guys writing a musical, about two guys writing a musical. It is chock full of musical theater references, gay jokes, and light upbeat songs. What was so captivating was how un-broadway Title was. It played, after NYMF, at The Vineyard Theater, where Avenue Q was born, and thrives in the same nature as Q. It is a show that celebrates the fact that anything good and beautiful can go to The Great White Way, its doesn't have to be a Disney spectacle, in fact it shouldn't be a Disney spectacle. I am excited to see where the show goes, and where the broadway musical will go after the statement that is Title of Show.

Couture Week Arouses and Challenges Pret-a-Porter

So Couture Week in Paris has been over for a few weeks now, designers have moved onto their ready-to-wear collections, but I keep going back to the fine line between Pret-a-Porter (or ready-to-wear) and Haute Couture. The nature of Pret-a-Porter is one of mass-production, for all. But with the economy the way it is, designers, for the last few seasons have been creating with exclusivity and uniqueness in mind. I think that if people are going to spend quadruple digits they want something unbelievably exquisite. Now the couture shows were, as always, about the one-of-a-kind artisanship, but I kept seeing things that could have been in any Pret-a-Porter, especially in Givenchy (pictured above) and Armani. Tisci, in my eyes, started off amazingly at the iconic french house, I loved his gradient leopard last Couture season, and the use of studs in S/S 07, but I saw this collection as lazy and bland at best. Mr. Armani, who was recently celebrated at the FIT Couture Society Gala, has been less than stellar since 1997, not one of my favs, so this collection was hardly surprising. All that being said, there were some incredible collections. Lacroix was spectacular, as was Lagerfeld's work at Chanel. It was not an incredibly ground-breaking season, but the craftsmanship and eye for detail we trust was evident and thriving in The City of Lights this past month.

So its been rather busy around here, I just began interning with SPF, but I did catch the Tony Awards, and would hardly call it a catch. The performances were bland and the overall production seemed ill-fitted and lame. In the Heights looks like the only good, new, show. I'm sorry but old men rocking out (as in Passing Strange) is not worth $100. That being said, there are some cool new things on the horizon. Although I all am for originality, I think Saved and Catch Me If You Can will be hits. Saved, based on the film starring Jena Malone and Mandy Moore, is playing now at Playwrights Horizon and, hopefully, will transfer after its run for a fall opening on Broadway. Catch Me If You Can is based on the film starring Tom Hanks, is being put up by the best in the Biz. Marc Shaiman is writing it and directed by Jerry Mitchell. This year was boring for me. I adore South Pacific, and the fact that, that show won out, is sad. Unfortunately I'm looking toward next season for a small salvation. Although I think it takes a lot to put up a show, and mad props, but Xanadu... come on now!

It was cotillion night at Erin Featherston's Resort collection. The young designer took references from New York debutantes. The collection was typical Featherston in color; light and girly. She used fantastically youthful cuts and shapes. It was all about the cocktail dress and inherited opulence, very Gossip Girl.

Just before Saint Laurent's untimely death, the creative director of his iconic house Stefano Pilati, created a resort collection that is the epitome of Saint Laurent. His genius and legacy was bursting from the seems. He used the iconic and controversial Smoking Jacket and re-imagined it in a creative and wearable way. It was androgynous while staying sexy and feminine. He used the suit looks, menswear as women's wear, and the tunic dresses Yves Saint Laurent premiered during his extensive career.

In Jacobs' extensive Resort 2009 collection, we saw a bevy of experiments in shape color and proportion. The collection started with an incredibly strong coat with a large bow in black along the neck. It was all about the love. Mr. Jacobs used a heart motif in many of the 38 looks. Victoria Beckham even wore one of the heart dresses at the CFDA Award Monday night. Jacobs worked immensely on this pant that created a feminine yet strong and tough look. It was reminded me of the Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2008 collection, and yet I saw a lot of the Spring 2007 collection by Jacobs. I saw Arabian Nights meets Studio 54. His use of colors like eggplant and gold, as well as an amazing trouser made his collections THE collection to look for in stores. I'm excited to see how the man you brought us such a calm tranquil, modern collection for fall, will grow on this idea for Spring in September.

Dooney and Barf Beats Icon of Luxury Louis Vuitton

A court in Manhattan ruled in favor of the mediocre semi-luxury brand Dooney and Bourke, in the four-year trademark dispute with Louis Vuitton. The"It Bag" by Bourke was in the words of Judge Sheindlin, does not infringe on Vuitton's Monograme Multicolore handbag collection. Although LVMH, the luxury conglomerate that owns Vuitton, is right in trying to protect their designs, I think the french company has taken these infringement cases way too far. The bags Dooney and Bourke are hideous and unsightly, but they are an established business that is not taking costumers away from Vuitton, it is an obvious fact, suburban pre-teens cannot afford real Vuitton. If anything Bourke is taking costumers away from illegally smuggled counterfeit handbags.

This is sort of late, but it's just so sad that Yves Saint Laurent has left us. What a legend. His place in the fashion chronicles is irreplaceable. He gave us so much, and I for one cannot wait to see Stefano Pilati's next collection for the house. His fall was number one on WWD's top shows, and with the death of Mr. Saint Laurent will only inspire Pilati to move forward to take a retrospective, respectful approach to the the Spring 2009 collection.

Tory Burch, Great Job Doing Nothing

Monday night was the CFDA Awards in Manhattan and for the most part everything was fair and somewhat predictable. Franco Costa won Women's Wear Designer of the Year, for his work at Calvin Klein, and new-comers at Rodarte and Opening Ceremony won The Swarovski Awards for emerging talent in their fields. The one award I couldn't wrap my head around was the recipient on the Accessory Designer of the Year, Tory Burch. I mean, sure, she makes the perfect flat for the JAPy girl in all of us, her riding boots are one of the only acceptable replacement for the Hermes boots, and her bags look just right on the pretentious Palm Beach old women, but really Designer of the Year? All she did was slap a gold "T" medallion on her ordinary accessories and make them the uniform of New Yorker wannabes and the fashionista off-spring who haven't yet convinced daddy to buy Lanvin or Louboutin. I just feel like there are so many other, more deserving, designers that should've received this honor. I mean, she doesn't even need the award, she will get enough money from her upcoming divorce from the venture capitalist who funded the launch of the company. I'm just saying, there were better choices.

Although the 40th anniversary of The Summer of Love was last year, Anna Sui's resort collection screamed peace, love, and rock and roll. Sui, the only true rocker among the New York designers, created a collection that was incredibly cohesive and wearable (unlike her fall 08 collection). The line featured tie-die frocks along with tunics in earth brocades. It was simple and easy to wear. It was youth, free, and nostalgic of an era not-so-different than the one we live in now.

In typical Versace fashion, Donatella Versace created a resort collection that was everything we have come to expect of the italian brand; over-the-top glamour and a love of all things shiny. The collection featured a few knockout looks, it was all about being tan and blonde. Ms. Versace created a line that was strong and sexy. The day looks featured skinny pants, trenches, and casual jackets. For evening, it was all about the cocktail dress. Using pleats and folds, Versace was able to concoct another quintessentially Versace collection. I think Ms. Versace has finally found her place and the brand's place in the fashion community. Versace is back in the game, and creating clothes for women who are not afraid of too much glamour and just want to have fun.

For Karl Lagerfeld's second collection of the season, he decided to go 70's. This collection, of 16 looks, was simple, wearable, and for the first time in a few seasons, chic. I was not a fan of Lagerfeld's last two collections for the Italian brand, so when I saw this collection I was enthralled and ecstatic. Whether you like his collections or not, you cannot deny that Lagerfeld has incredible skill and craftsmanship beneath the sleeves of his signature Dior by Hedi Slimane suits. He showed a few particularly convivial cocktail dresses featuring great tailoring and magnificent use of technological fabrics. I especially liked the first dress (above), it was Mary Tyler Moore meets Molly Ringwald. There were some great day looks as well, no one does a short-short Like Karl. He went back to the fun, whimsical, girlie, days much like S/S 2007, that was a great show!

In a word, Thomas Maier's Resort collection for Bottega Veneta was easy. Easy to wear, easy to see women wearing, and easy for the eyes. Maier created a collection using, surprisingly, bold colors. He made an excellent statement on the menswear-as-women's wear topic. His use of color blocking, like the dress shown above, was a brave step away from his previously subtle collection. The thing that struck me about these clothes was wearability of them. The model, Chanel Iman, looked comfortably yet still strong and fashionable. I could see these clothes on a women in her 20s or her 60s. It was all about the slouchy suit and the loose-fitting dresses. Thomas Maier has turned, what was once an uptight and dated brand, into an unrestrained, effortless, facile, yet incredibly luxurious icon of style.

Hermes: Gender Segregationists on Madison

In their Resort 2009 collection, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the boys behind Proenza Schouler, we saw a calm, cool experimentation with size and proportion. They used great layered structural linens for day and sultry black satin in their evening looks. What I love about Proenza is their young signature cuts. There is something under-the-radar about them that's exciting and fresh.

Broadway in Bryant Park Will Feature Tony Noms and Broadway Mainstays

The line up for the summer "Broadway in Bryant" park festival was announced recently. The backyard of The New York Public Library and home of New York Fashion week will play host for the series now in its seventh season. The concerts will include performances from new shows like In The Heights and old favorites like Avenue Q and Hairspray. The full schedule is as follows (but is subject to change):

For Oscar de la Renta Resort 2009 is all about color and cut. The show, which was held on May 14, 2008 in New York, used a variety of colors to show pieces that screamed Upper East Side elegance in a subtle and beautiful way. The show opened with a stunning gold skirt suit, it was Jackie O and Anna Wintour with a bit of Indian royalty. The colors moved from more fall-esque colors to blues and reds to exquisite black poofy evening gowns.Toward the middle of the show, Mr. de la Renta presented a cocktail dress (above) that blew my mind, it was in this blue and red print that was popped with an air of youth and chicness. It is that time of year again, resort season for the world's top designers. This season is less of a spectacle and, like pre-fall, collections are shown in a smaller more professional environment. Karl Lagerfeld showed his Chanel show in Maimi, Fl. I thought the collection was really hit or miss. The evening and work looks were exquisite, I saw a whole lot of Karl and his signature uniform of black and white suiting. Unfortunately the day and swim looks were a bit old and somewhat tacky. The Chanel menswear was also less than spectacular, at times, there were great looks that featured great knits and denim shorts. But I don't think men are going to sport the plain white T-shirt with an embossed Chanel logo that Karl showed, and especially at Chanel prices.

Costume Institute Flies, and Soars @ The Met.

The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art premiered its' latest exhibit on May 5, 2008. The $7,500-a-head event was titled "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy", and was (as always) a who's who of New York society. Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour (pictured above) wore a bizarre but immaculate Chanel Haute Couture gown. George Clooney and Julia Roberts wore Giorgio Armani, and even arrived with the designer. My best dressed would have to be, surprising, Christina Ricci and Zac Posen, that had a certain simplicity and sense of humor I admired.
The Exhibit itself was small and somewhat lackluster. But there were some cool pieces, I especially liked a Hussein Chalayan white dress (also above). The coolest thing at the exhibit was an mannequin that wore a Clark Kent costume and then in the blink of an eye, it was a superman costume, I have no clue how they pulled that off.
"Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy", which was headed by Mr. Armani and Ms. Wintour, as a gala was stocked full of an ever growing population of stunning fabulosity, the exhibit was bland, but hardly mattered.

The 2008 Drama Desk Awards nominations were announced on April 28 by Bebe Neuwirth and Len Cariou at the Friars Club in New York. The broadway musical A Catered Affair, which stars Harvey Firestein (Hairspray) and Matt Cavenaugh (Grey Gardens), took home 12 nominations and the Off-Broadway Adding machine drew 9 nominations. The Wackness is Anything But Wack @ TriBeCa Film Fest.

We got a chance to attend the New York premiere of Jonathan Levine's The Wackness. It was absolutely amazing. The film follows Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) through his final summer before college in 1994. The film opens with Shapiro talking to his therapist, Dr. Squires (Sir Ben Kingsley), and before he leaves he pays for his session... with weed. Luke's coming-of-age is established by Squires and his crush, squires' daughter, Stephanie, played by Olivia Thirlby (Juno). The movie was astounding and everyone should go see it when it hits theaters in NYC and LA on July 8th!

Squeezebox! Premiere's Rockin' Revenge

Friday April 25, at TriBeCa Film Festival, the iconic party known as Squeezebox! was brought back to life with the documentary of the same name. The red carpet was studded with everyone from drag queens to rock stars to models. Marc Jacobs hosted the after-party. For one night only, Squeezebox! was back, and we were there! Debbie Harry was laughing with drag performer, Lady Bunny, and John Waters was reminiscing about the good old days, when asked how the clubs today are different from the 80s and 90s he laughed and said, "I don't know I never o out anymore."

At first i thought it appropriate, who else is more rock and roll americana then John? But that is sort of pitiful how the place that influenced so much of our culture has been bought out by a guy that sells rock "influenced" attire for 10 times the price. CONVERSE SHOULD NOT BE $90! There are no dressing rooms so wear forgiving undies, and be ready to fight for those Louboutins. It ends March 2nd so hurry over to Chelsea and get some deals!

New York is Not Loving Nordstrom

According to WWD the seattle-based retailer is starting to face difficulties. The Manhattan flagshio store was set to open at the site of the former Drake Hotel, on the northwest corner of Park Avenue and 56th Street. One thing Manhattan does not need is another lame commercial department store. But anyways the fact of the matter is that the partners who Nordstrom signed a nonbinding letter of intent with has been seeing serious finacial problems leaving the possibilities in the air. We are not choosing sides but the city could use another Bendels not another Lord &Taylor.

Great Shows Roll on NY's Runways

Some great things were shown last week and we'd like to recap some of our favorites. I guess I'll start at the end, Marc Jacobs. If there was one big surprise this season it was at the NY Armory, where Marc shows every season. First was the set, it was no runway, more of a rock concert stage. An rightfully so, the iconic band Sonic Youth took to the stage while the collection was shown around them. The next surprise: the collection. It was so muted in color and cuts compared to previous seaons. Its simplicity was at first hard to get used to but then the beauty of each peice and the ssuperb craftsmenship will won out.
I liked the Marc by Marc collection even more however. It was very punk rock meets club kids meets Misshapes. Maybe it is the youth that I am which drew me to it but all I can say is I can not wait to buy everything from that collection.But I could talk all day about Marc Jacobs.
Now Proenza also made a brave move, their collection was beautifully classic but still had their signature cool kid vibe. I loved their Balenciaga Bows on the neckline and their dress looks were stunning. Interstingly i did see some Valentino inspirations, whether that was pressured from the Valentino Group, who is now their backer, or its simple artistic inspiration is anyones guess.
Diane Von Furstenberg had another great show. It was different for her, very structured and masculine. In the same fashion Carolina Herrera shoed a knockout collection.
All in all it was an eye opening week. I think New York didnt establish new trends or styles but built on what has been going on both in fashion and the world we live in.

So its almost the midpoint of New York Fashion week and there is already tons to talk about. The best shows so far have definitely been Alexander Wang and Diane Von Furstenberg. Wang's show was dark and submissive, he used both skinny and wide leg pants with black blazers and sweaters. There was also a fantastic use of new wave fabrics in black and earthy toned skirts and wrap dresses. It was quite reminiscent of Givenchy's recent shows. Furstenberg's show was a brave step away from her usual uber feminine looks. She used the Dior New look in most of the pieces
with great colors like olive and deep purple. Obviously Baby Phat was disgusting and gaudy as always. Relative newcomer Sass and Bide had a fantastic show, perfect for the Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs costumer, Chic, Young, and Tough.

Where to Be: The Prada Party

As a part of New York Fashion Week, The italian company will host a banquet at the Prada Broadway store (pictured above). Located in Soho the store got a ton of press when it opened due to its outlandish architecture and amazing inventory. It will be held from 9 P.M. until Midnight and attendees include Kirsten Dunst, of course Miuccia Prada herself, and possibly Lindsay Lohan.

Tomorrow, Friday February 1st, is the opening day of Mercedes Benz New York Fashion week for Fall '08. The week is kicked off bt Nautica at 10 a.m. at the Salon at Bryant Park. It should be an interesting week considering New York's lackluster shows for Spring in September, I hope they can pull it off this time. Exciting and noteworthy shows include Betsy Johnson, for its her 30th anniversary and a retrospective will be featured in the show. Also considering recent press; Tory Burch (due to her recent divorce from husband/owner of the company), Issac Mizrahi (due to his departure from Target and new job with Liz Claiborne), and Rodarte (due to their hit show last seaon, will all be the shows to watch! Couture Week: Wearable?

The recent couture shows were more wearable than ever. I especially loved Ricardo Tisci's collection for Givenchy and Lacroix was unbeliveably exquisite. Chanel on the other hand was in one word awkward. You have to try to make 5'11" girls look short and stout, and Karl Lagerfeld seemed to try very hard. This is unfortunate since his last season was one of the most successful couture seasons in Chanel's history. Valentino's show on the other hand was an emotional one, it marked his official retirement for the fashion world. Can't wait for ready-to-wear!

Is It True: Alexander Wang for Uniqlo!!??

Sources have not confirmed yet, but rumors are flying that the mastermind designer Alexander Wang will collaborate with the Japan based clothing retailer in SoHo soon. The line will be a more affordable simple line in the style of the successful store. Even if Mr. Wang, who's ready-to-wear line flew off the racks at Barney's CO-OP and Bergdorf's 5F, doesn't end up working for the mega-store, check it out, it is easily one of the best resources for the shopping challenged or anyone who loves simple unique finds.

The soaring new musical is bound to be a hit starring Side Show's Alice Ripley and The Apple Tree's Brian d'Arcy James. The show is directed by the Tony nominated Micheal Greif (Rent). The show explores how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their world intact," according to show notes. Little Mermaid Hits Broadway

The much anticipated Broadway interpretation of Disneys The Little Mermaid opened yesterday. Reviews have been mixed thus far. The critic I trust most, Gannett's Jacques Le Sourd said "it will have a good long run" but "the grown-ups need not apply". This musical makes a trio of Disney Broadway shows now and we are sure they will be raking in the dough this season.

They will be appearing on the NBC "Fashion On Ice" and the MAC line will still be launched. The designers, Richie Rich and Traver Rains have been featured all over including My Super Sweet 16 and are a huge favorite of Celebutantes like Nicole, Amy, Mischa, and Paris, who actually appeared in their Spring 07 show.

I had the chance to see the new Broadway cast of the amazing Tony winning Spring Awakening. John Gallagher Jr. left the cast in late December and his replacement was lackluster to say the least. Blake Bashoff the new Moritz over acted and was an bad replica of the Tony winner for Best Featured Actor. The fairly new Ernst was out that evening but the cutie Matt Doyle understudied him and he was fantastic. It's not the same show but it is still the best show in our fair city!

Can someone please tell me what is going on will the Genius of fashion Marc Jacobs. We love him but why is he still with loser guido Jason Preston? It is so sad to see the horrible influence on Marc from his tacky open button shirts to his way too tan skin. What a shame, maybe if we pray he will get his act together.
